The Two Fatalities Revealed in Brown University Incident as Authorities Persist in Search for Killer.
Both young individuals who were killed in Saturday’s mass shooting in Providence had tributes paid to them on Monday – as a manhunt for their assailant carried on following the release by authorities in Rhode Island of the only individual questioned in the case.
Remembering Ella Cook
The student Ella Cook, a second-year scholar from Alabama, was described as “an incredible, grounded, faithful, bright light”, as stated by the Advent Cathedral in Birmingham, which paid tribute to her at a gathering on Sunday.
Cook was second-in-command of Brown’s branch of College Republicans of America, according to the organization. The White House press secretary also posted sympathies online, remarking: “It's indescribable. Thinking of her loved ones and companions, particularly her mother and father.”
The Second Victim
The other person killed was an Uzbek national named MukhammadAziz Umurzokov, a citizen of Uzbekistan in his initial year at the renowned school, family members said.
His name was officially acknowledged by the foreign office of Uzbekistan.
“He was incredibly kind, funny, and smart. His ambitions were lofty of entering the field of neurosurgery and aiding others,” his sister, Samira Umurzokova said in a memorial statement.
Details of the Attack
Nine other people were injured in Saturday’s attack in the engineering building of Brown’s grounds in Providence, during the institution's end-of-term tests.
Officials stated by the end of Sunday that a 24-year-man detained in a police operation at a Hampton Inn about approximately 17 miles from the scene earlier in the day was set to be freed.
“There is a killer at large,” stated the state's top prosecutor, Peter Neronha.
He continued, “Investigations can lead one way, and then you have to regroup and pursue a different angle, and this is precisely what occurred over the last 24 hours or so.”
Public Fear
Brett Smiley, Brett Smiley, noted: “We know that this is likely to cause new worry for our community”.
The assailant opened fire inside a room in the engineering building on Saturday afternoon, firing more than 40 rounds from a handgun, a police source reported to the media outlet.
Police that entered the inn seized a pair of pistols and two loaded 30-round magazines when the person of interest was taken into custody, as was reported.
The Wounded Victims
Regarding the nine injured, a single scholar was discharged from care, stated the university president, Christina Paxson. Seven more were in serious yet stable state, and one was in critical condition, authorities stated on Sunday.
An educational institution, a private academy in Durham, North Carolina, said a recent graduate, Kendall Turner, was in the group of seriously hurt victims.
More Condolences
Tributes were paid to Cook at a church service in Birmingham on Sunday. A reverend stated, “Her presence was a wonderful, steady, pious glow not only here growing up... but at the university she was a radiant presence in that particular place as well.”
A group leader, Martin Bertao, released remarks from the club. “Ella was recognized for her fearless, heroic, and gentle spirit as she worked for her branch and fellow classmates,” he said.
An American diplomat, Jonathan Henick, said he was “extremely sorrowful” by the passing of Umurzokov in a message. “We extend our sincere condolences to Mr Umurzokov’s family, companions, and peers and lament the passing of his bright future.”

The fatal shooting at Brown, the nation’s seventh-oldest university with about over seven thousand undergraduate and 3,000 graduate students, happened during one of at least nearly 400 mass shootings recorded nationally so far in the current year, according to records.
